Plum Creek Pond
I went to a pond on Plum Creek today. The pond is on the Plum Creek Golf Course. I’m not sure if it has a name. Google Maps just shows a Soil Conservation Service Site 1 Dam.
The dam is a type of embankment dam known as an earthen dam. The dam was probably built to control flooding and soil erosion on when the surrounding land was farm or ranch land. Now it’s a nice feature on a golf course.
Plum Creek is 52 miles long. It starts in Hays County and flows into Caldwell County where it joins the San Marcos River.
The day was very windy so the water is quite choppy. You can hardly see them, but there are ducks out there.
Here’s a better view of the ducks. These three allowed me to get quite close to them, but most swam away when I approached. You can see many more in the background. There is also a nice stand of cattails on the far shore.
I don’t know what kind of ducks they are. I wonder if they are wintering here or if this is their permanent home.
Here’s a better view of the cattails. The strong wind was making them bow over.
