Onion Creek After The Rain
Onion Creek is carrying quite a bit of water after the recent rains. It rained about 3 inches in the area and combined with earlier rains, the creek is flowing nicely.
As I drove to one of my favorite spots, at a low-water crossing, there were signs that the road was closed due to flooding. I kept going however, thinking that the signs might be warning about a problem that no longer existed, or in the worst case, I could get photos of the flooded roadway.
The road was open and this first photo is of the creek just off the road. The water is very clear and swift. You can see some whitewater in the distance. Those are large cypress trees on the right bank.
This view is further downstream and closer to the bit of whitewater. The driftwood log was deposited on the rocky bank, but it gives you an idea of how much the stream can overflow.
This is a small tributary of Onion Creek. It is normally dry and doesn’t have a name, but it’s a beautiful little stream right now. I’m sure the wildlife appreciates it.
