Historic Stagecoach Park
I went to Historic Stagecoach Park in Buda today. I’ve been driving by it for years and decided it was time I checked it out. I love the place!
It’s 51 acres pretty close to downtown Buda and on Onion Creek. I don’t think it’s well-visited. I saw no one else while I was there and I’m not complaining.
The McElroy-Severn House which served as the Onion Creek Post Office and Stagecoach House is near the park entrance. It was build around 1885 and is listed in the National Register of Historic Places by the U.S. Department of the Interior.
There’s a nice, small pond at the park, probably about 2 acres in area. As you can see, the edges are quite shallow and it’s exposed to full sun. I was pleasantly surprised to see it clear of scum and algae.
There’s a neat, working windmill at one end of the pond which pumps water into a stock tank. It makes a very nice fountain.
There’s a small creek at the eastern edge of the park. It flows into Onion Creek, but I don’t know what it’s called. This is a nice, shady and cool spot right near a major road. If you zoom by at 55 mph, you’ll miss it.
The park has hiking/biking trails, picnic areas, a playground, a pavilion and an amphitheater. Check it out.
