Eastern Redbud Spring
The Redbuds (Cercis canadensis) are in full bloom now. I posted about them a few weeks ago when the buds were just appearing.
Here’s a photo of a tree near our house. It’s about 8 feet tall and grows right next to some live oaks. You can’t tell from the photo, but the bees just love it.
It looks like some of the lower branches are dead, but I’m not going to prune it. This is a wild tree. It receives absolutely no care. I’m not sure how old it is, but it’s never been watered or fertilized. The Eastern Redbud is a native, well-adapted plant to our region. Some people use it in their landscaping for exactly this reason.
Here’s a close up photo of the flowers. You can also see a leaf just starting to sprout on the tip.
The lower photo is one of the best I have seen of Redbud… And I have looked around at several hundred images. Well done. The lighting is absolutely superb and the shades are excellent. It is one of my favourite shrubs.
