A Little Fall Of Rain
We got some much-needed rain at the end of December!
We had 0.25 inches on the 31st, and 0.15 inches on the 16th, for a month’s total of 0.4 inches. We had no rain in November, so even a small amount in December was most welcome. We finished 2012 with 32.5 inches, so it was really an average year. I like to say that we average about 33 inches of rain a year, with most years below average!
Here’s the complete chart:
The middle of the year, from March to October, shows an interesting wet/dry monthly cycle. That’s new this year and probably just a coincidence.
2013 is off to a good start too – we received 0.4 inches on January 4th.
I took this sunset photo at what is becoming my favorite spot on our property for such things. It’s December 29th at about 5:30 pm. The ground slopes away gently toward a wet-weather creek at the southern end. I’m standing at the start of an open grassland, so the view is quite clear up to the horizon. Add a 24mm wide-angle lens and a dramatic sky and this is what you get.
