Nocturnal Elusives
Our game camera recently caught several elusive visitors. You can see by the photo’s time stamps that they all were early in the morning.
First is a nice white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus) buck. White-tailed deer are not rare on our property, but the large bucks are very wary and you hardly ever see them.
Next, although the photo is not very clear, I think is a bobcat (Lynx rufus). We’ve caught one before with the game camera and have never seen on in person. They’re very rare around here.
Here’s a coyote (Canis latrans), or prairie wolf. This is the first one we catch with the game camera. These are not rare either, but we hardly ever see them. We know they’re around because we can hear their yelps and howls at night. Our dogs like to join in the chorus.
The game camera doesn’t take the best photos, but they allow me to capture wildlife that I normally wouldn’t even see. These photos were all taken at night, in the dark. The camera has an infrared motion detector which triggers it to take the photo. It also has an infrared flash to illuminate the scene.
Santa has just brought me my first game camera. I’ve given them as gifts over the years, but never had one of my own. I plan to set it up at my water trough and look forward to seeing what comes in at night to drink. Several resident does and a pair of coyotes frequent the water at dawn and dusk. I’ll be curious to see what else stops by during the night. Thanks for sharing these!
Hi Susan,
I’m glad to hear you got a game camera! I’ve had mine for about a year; Santa got me mine last year. I have two memory cards and I swap them out about once a week. It’s like Christmas morning every time I look through the one I just took out to see what we caught.
Please keep me posted on what you catch!
